The Osteoicon or Bone House was built in 1837. It was a small museum where a selection of bones from the cave was exhibited. Until 2010 only the flagstone floor and tumbled walls marked the site of this once picturesque little building. An illustration from the Gentleman`s Magazine shows a thatched roof with deep eaves to make a covered veranda around it.

Proposed Reconstruction of the Osteoicon
The Banwell Heritage Group are working towards the eventual reconstruction of the Osteoicon. In 2010 the curved walls were repaired and the window openings formed. Listed building consent has now been granted for the full restoration and in 2011 the next stage will commence.
